In a tradition that goes back
two decades, a group of dedicated adults swims 50 or more miles each summer.
You can see them using the lap lanes and entering their daily distance on a
chart near the office. Summer of 2004,
the following nine Mohican swimmers achieved the “50 Mile Club”;
Carol Beehler – 131 miles
(the highest number ever recorded by a woman at Mohican)
Suzy K. Gebhardt – 105 miles
Janice Newman – 83 miles
Sylvia Reis – 77 miles
Joe Gebhardt – 75 miles
Marilyn Urwitz – 57 miles
Jeffrey Goode – 54 miles
Xenia Shroff – 52 miles
Val Spiegel – 50 miles
The Mohican Pool Mermaids meet every morning at 9AM, for an hour, all season long, for low impact water aerobics. Working both in shallow and deep water, with styrofoam dumb bells, they have an active workout, with the added benefit of good fellowship. Mermaids is open to ALL adults in the pool community, swimmers and non-swimmers alike. Men, too!
